Windsor Manor resident gets dream tour of Canada on Palace screen
Another Dream Fulfilled at Windsor Manor…
One more dream came true Sunday as friends and family gathered to join Deane Turner on a train ride across Canada. Deane stated she always wanted to journey across Canada by train so the team at Windsor Manor researched documentaries on the train trip and contacted the theater to schedule a private showing of the film. Yesterday, one of Project Learning Tree’s Iowa GreenSchools! families, the Isbells, along with AFF’s Melissa Harden (far right) and James McGirt (far left), were afforded the opportunity to meet with Iowa Senator Tom Harkin and his staff. Just about every day I drive past Minne Estema and never really gave it much thought, until.....there was a brief discussion on our Facebook page about a steamboat being part of our history in Vinton, and I believe someone mentioned that Minne Estema used to be a resort at one time.

VSMS Food Fair teaches students about culture of foreign countries
The Vinton-Shellsburg Middle School Expanded Learning Students shared lessons and food from several other countries with their fellow students last week.
Five displays were set up in the VSMS Media Room; students sent from display to display, hearing short presentations about those countries and sampling food made by the students and their families. A picture from the flower garden

Activity Coordinator Mary Simnacher Retires From VGH Nursing and Rehab
On Wednesday afternoon, May 26, Virginia Gay Hospital Nursing and Rehab hosted a reception to honor retiring Activity Coordinator, Mary Simnacher. After 38 years of service to Virginia Gay, it was no surprise there was a standing room only crowd. “I worked as a nurses’ aide, then in materials and surgery both, and then I went down to PT. Nearly 150 Saluted in April 26 Ceremonies
On April 26 Kirkwood Community College devoted an afternoon to honor academic and community excellence. The annual Outstanding Student recognition paid tribute to individuals in every academic program and learning center in a reception at the Kirkwood Center for Continuing Education.

VINTON-SHELLSBURG GRADUATE AMY MEYER ON MISSIONARY PROJECT FOR SUMMER
Amy Meyer from Garrison, a Vinton-Shellsburg 2007 graduate and Iowa State University Student, will be heading to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina on a missionary project this summer. The project is sponsored by Campus Crusade for Christ (CRU), an evangelism driven Christian organization. While at Myrtle Beach Meyer will take part in ‘Evangelism on the Beach’ and share her faith by witnessing to high school seniors and college students on the beach as well as people she will be working with at her summer job in Myrtle Beach.
